It’s only Saturday, but I’ve started off the weekend with fail on the knitting front.
I frogged the Faux Woven Wrap on Thursday. The fabric was turning out far too dense. It was like an armor plated wrap, a beautiful armor plated wrap, but still armor plated. I wanted something with more drape for the purpose I had in mind.
Linden has made me sad. I’m having trouble finding yarn for it. The Yarn Over from Green Mountain Spinnery isn’t right for me. The grey has been reported to be a yellow grey, not the clear grey the picture on the website shows. Véronik Avery has been out on the Twist Collective Forum on Ravelry and weighed in on the Cascade Ecological Wool I hoped to substitute. She’s used it before for her sample of her Military Jacket from her book Knitting Classic Style, so she knows what the yarn is like. She says it’s not suitable.
The yarns she has said were suitable so far have all worked out to costing close to $200 for the yardage I would need to make the sweater. This is well over my budget for making the sweater. The Yarn Over would be closing on the top end of my budget, but the colors aren’t acceptable.
I’m so disappointed right now that I could cry. I’ve taken Linden out of my knitting queue and I don’t know if it will ever go back into the queue, even though I spent the money on the pattern. I’m so disappointed that I’m about ready to admit total defeat and chalk it all up to “Véronik Avery patterns are only for admiring from afar, like fine art. Big girls with color issues and yarn budgets need not apply.” Perhaps in a few months I’ll feel differently.
Since I know I’m not going to be tackling Linden any time soon, I’ve started over with the Feather yarn from the Faux Woven Wrap. This time making the Step Ribbed Stole from The Knitter’s Book of Yarn by Clara Parkes. The pattern recommends using a yarn with some mohair in it for drape, but the 100% merino yarn I’m using is coming along with the kind of drape I’d hoped for from the Fauw Woven Wrap, so I’m pleased, so far. We’ll see if it survives the attack of the fatal frog once I get a little farther on the pattern.

Much hugs. It sucks when you have to admit that a project just isn’t going to happen, at least not in the way you were hoping.
Pics of yarn, pics of WIP’s. Pics, pics, pics, you take lovely pics
