30 May 2008 Quest for Handles

I’m stuck on what to do for handles for the Fiesta Net bag. Maybe just a pair of long, wide set handles with some buttons for decoration.

28 May 2008 Brr!

I had to pull out my winter blanket as lows dipped into the low 40’s (between 4.5 and 6 degrees celcius) overnight.  There wasn’t a late frost warning, but I was a bit concerned for the garden.  I peeked out the window and thankfully everything looks okay.

I worked some more on the Fiesta Net Bag yesterday.  I’ve got a little over one more round to go on the body of the bag, and then that’s done.  I need to figure out handles for it.

I don’t have any (bright) new pictures, yet. I got called out for coffee with friends at the local large commercial bookseller and coffee shop. Her Rosiness and Our Friend Steve played some Old School Magic the GatheringI think the last time we bought cards was during the Mirage set, which was something like ten years ago right after the rules went to 2.0.  No way these decks are tournament legal, unless someone does some kind of retro tournament.

I considered taking along the four decks I have and playing too, but they’ve already seen everything I have to offer, and adding the third person to the game both slows down play and changes the nature of the game. Plus, my theme decks tend to annoy them with their surprising effectiveness. (What’s wrong with Fluffy Chick Deck, anyway? Don’t you like getting beaten by butterflies and unicorns?)

I took my laptop and Raveled (is that a verb in the same sense as “Googled,” now too?) while they played, but it really wasn’t a terribly productive night.  All I really got done was drinking coffee and socializing.

In Progress

Pattern: Fiesta Net Bag
Source: My own market bag formula
Size: N/A
Yarn:Lily Sugar and Cream in Hot Orange and Playtime, two skeins each
Hook size: US H, 5 mm
Pattern Modifications: Square Mesh instead of scale mesh. Reinforcing bands of single crochet throughout the body of the bag to help stabilize it. These modifications make this a four skein pattern instead of just a two skein pattern, but I really like the sturdiness they result in.

I’ve found that working with kitchen cotton is the fastest way to bring on carpel tunnel. Aunt Net’s birthday is next Monday and I need to have this done by Mother’s day to give to her, so slow and steady.

These aren’t the colors I’d choose for myself, but they’re perfect for my aunt. agreed when I showed her the colors yesterday. I ran into her at the big box craft store when I went out for the second skeins of both colors.

I like the way the solid and the ombre blend together.
There’s an irregular striping going on that I find particularly charming for some reason. I think it’ll appeal to my aunt as well. There’s always something satisfying about working on a project for someone else when you know they’re going to love it and get a ton of use out of it.

After the fuzz, it’s nice to see some stitch detail again.
Poor Ninn! Her youngest picked the diorama for her history project instead of picking dressing up like a person from history and giving an oral report, so now they’re building whole settlement town. They were out buying the supplies when they snuck up on me. (I expect pictures on the blog, Ninn.)

This has has taught the youngest Ninnling a valuable lesson. Next time, suck it up and give the oral report. It’s always a whole lot less work, even if you do have to find/have Mom sew a costume.
