28 Feb 2008 On knitting a geek, or being a knitter and a geek, something like that

I haven’t even knit my first pair of socks, but I know I must make these socks because they’re called Rivendell. Yes, I’ve been stalking these socks since they were on the Yarn Harlot and yes I added the designer’s blog to my once again expanding blog-rolls.

But, then again, we already knew I was this kind of a geek.

My co-worker, Kalynnda, brought me the perfect Doctor Who gift. It’s a Sonic Screwdriver. Now I can take over the world!

Note to Self: HR’s got a Neuralizer. Does that make her angsty-Jack? Does Sonic Screwdriver trump neuralizer? Hmm. . . I think there shall have to be a test.

1. Know your friend’s interests. (rubber duckies, doctor who)
2. Find something that combines them, like this.
3. Purchase on Ebay in April for half price from U.K. seller.
4. Squeal and give to friend in November because you just can’t take it anymore.
5. Buy Barnes & Noble/Amazon.com gift card as replacement Christmas Gift in December.

Sigh.

I just bought a copy of Amazing Crochet Lace: New Fashions Inspired by Old-Fashioned Lace by Doris Chan. I’ve already found several projects I must make. The top three on my list: the Risa robe and the Abydos Vest, followed closely by the Farpoint topper.

First I came upon this:
It’s knit, Jim.

and thought, I must have it in a girlier knit, and McCoy blue instead of Drop Dead Red, because I look like hell in Kirk Gold. But where would I get the yarn?

Then I saw this on craftster:

McCoy Blue Raglan: 5th picture from the top

So now I have a possible line on the yarn. . . I’m such a geek.

Update: The Craftster who made the “McCoy Blue” sweater lost the ball bands from her yarn, so she doesn’t know the brand/colorway name. KHAAAAN!
