01 Sep 2008 and sometimes they take a break

I took a much needed rest from pretty much everything except my day job.  It’s not that I didn’t do anything at all, just that my migraines have been getting the better of me, and I needed to focus on doing the things I need to do to stay healthy.  The past couple of days I’ve been feeling much better, and I’ve been very productive.

I also changed the design of the blog.  This lovely new design is called “Notepad Chaos.” The theme was designed by Evan Eckard especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers. I’m not a graphic designer by a long shot, but I once had aspirations to be one and the eye candy at  Smashing Magazine is really inspirational.

I’ve also done some knitting.

I ruined the socks I’ve been waiting all summer for and have put myself in “sock time-out.” I finished a felted knit clutch and matching hat for my friend Amy K., and knit a new winter stocking cap that needs a home.  I also started a new winter “computer room hat” to go with the fingerless mitts and neckie I made last year. I’ll share more about those things during the week.

Since I’m in “sock time-out,” I’ve been taking the time to do a little swatching. I’m still trying to find the perfect cardigan (or two) to make for work, so I’ve swatched for a couple of patterns.  It’s mostly stockinette stuff and no exciting lace or anything like that, but it has to be done just the same.

06 Aug 2008 knitting limbo

I’m stalled on my Faux Woven Shawl. I got two rows done at my chiro’s office today. I just haven’t had my knit on for it.

I haven’t had my knit on for anything yet this week. I feel like everything is in knitting limbo until I get my knit together.

And that’s just my knitting. That’s not my job, my classes, or anything else. All of that is part of the big spiral, too.

05 Aug 2008 last reading the classics yarn

I got the last installment of my Reading the Classics Sock Club yarn. Two words: Simply Fabulous! Of course, it’s not going to be socks (again). I thought about putting something with it and making Eunny Jang’s Endpaper Mitts and learn colorwork but I didn’t have any yarn to go with it properly. I’ll have to find other colors to make them with.

Instead I’m planning to make by JoLene M. Treace’s Wine and Roses Mitts with the yarn because they’re everything I want in girly little fingerless mitts and I don’t need to make a yarn purchase to do it.

29 Jul 2008 the dangers of sock clubs
 |  Category: crafting, knitting  |  Tags: , , ,  | 4 Comments

I am currently enjoying the arrival of new yarns monthly from two different sock clubs. One is Anna at Knitting up a Storm’s “Reading the Classics” Sock Club which has featured yarns inspired by The Great Gatsby, Dracula, and (next month) Pride and Prejudice. The other is Brooke at The Painted Tiger’s Super Striped Summer Sock Yarn Club (or SSSSYC for short), which has had patriotic stripes, a variegated yarn inspired by a super cute knitting chicken motif fabric (which was a surprise that made me laugh so hard I almost choked on my tea), and August will feature some version of her signature rainbows (as recently Harloted).

The thing is there are dangers in sock clubs and no one tells you about them.

07 Jun 2008 koi toes

The Koi Sock, it has toes. It also has it’s pretty yarn out from around the needles I need to re-knit Gatsby, so that’s good, too. I have happiness on two counts. Admittedly, there’s still another Koi sock to knit, but I want my birthday socks first!

The Koi sock has toes.

My toes, they are the sexy. Non?

While you contemplate the aesthetic qualities of my peds, I’ll go back to my date with Tim Robbins, who is currently reading me The Great Gatsby. Read to me, Tim. Read to me while I reknit my sock.

03 Jun 2008 They are birthday socks and they knit themselves

Okay, not really, but I’m making really good progress. It’s recognizably a sock, even.

Gatsby Day 2

Heel turned and heading for the cuff.
