03 Oct 2008 persephone liesl for the win
It wants to be a liesl. Really. It said so.

It wants to be a liesl. Really. It said so.

It’s a good thing yarn doesn’t go stale because this yarn has been sitting in my stash since about this time last year, when I realized that “potato” is not a shape that looks good in a Cherie Amour.

I’m still debating my next project.  I’m tempted by a sweater using the persephone yarn, but I know that Cherie Amour isn’t that sweater. I went back and looked at all the Cherie Amour projects again and I just don’t have te body confidence some of the larger ladies who’ve made it had.

I’m thinking about swatching up Eiffel and doing a yarn substitution as I think the overall look of the sweater will be better for my figure.  I also think it will be easier to add short shaping in the ribbing top section to accomodate the girls.

Then again, maybe that yarn just wants to be Liesl and doesn’t know it yet.  The yarn is brown with silvery gray brown patches and a soft lavender undertone.  It could could be very pretty as a long sleeved Liesl and I need a new sweater for work.  I’m freezing already.

On the stole front, I’m still torn on which comes first between Muir and Oakwoods.  I’ve got some Woolen Rabbit Laceweight in Morrocan Spice (like this one in a Ravelry Stash), which would make a nice fall colored Muir.  So would the Knit Picks Campfire.  Oakwoods, on the other hand, is calling too, and would be so perfectly seasonal.

The ideas are still bubbling, so I haven’t cast on a darned thing yet.  Cursed indecision, anyway.  If I haven’t narrowed down the pattern for the sweater by tomorrow, I’ll probably cast on Oakwoods next, simply because I’ve figured out both pattern and yarn.

01 Sep 2008 and sometimes they take a break

I took a much needed rest from pretty much everything except my day job.  It’s not that I didn’t do anything at all, just that my migraines have been getting the better of me, and I needed to focus on doing the things I need to do to stay healthy.  The past couple of days I’ve been feeling much better, and I’ve been very productive.

I also changed the design of the blog.  This lovely new design is called “Notepad Chaos.” The theme was designed by Evan Eckard especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers. I’m not a graphic designer by a long shot, but I once had aspirations to be one and the eye candy at  Smashing Magazine is really inspirational.

I’ve also done some knitting.

I ruined the socks I’ve been waiting all summer for and have put myself in “sock time-out.” I finished a felted knit clutch and matching hat for my friend Amy K., and knit a new winter stocking cap that needs a home.  I also started a new winter “computer room hat” to go with the fingerless mitts and neckie I made last year. I’ll share more about those things during the week.

Since I’m in “sock time-out,” I’ve been taking the time to do a little swatching. I’m still trying to find the perfect cardigan (or two) to make for work, so I’ve swatched for a couple of patterns.  It’s mostly stockinette stuff and no exciting lace or anything like that, but it has to be done just the same.

01 Jul 2008 Hello, the living room! You rock!

So, there’s been no knitting this weekend. I should just admit that right up front. I had these great intentions, but somehow I managed not to pick up sticks of that kind.

I have all kinds of excuses.

28 Jun 2008 new projects

I know I’ve really got no room to complain about the effects of the flooding here in Cedar Rapids since the only losses I’ve had were ones that affected the whole community, but I’ve still been struggling with dysphoria. My asthma is bad enough that I can’t go help with the clean-up. I could help with reconstruction, but people aren’t ready for reconstruction yet. Some can’t even begin clean-up until someone else tells them if they can rebuild. I’d donate books to the library, but they’re in no shape to take donations yet. It’s like everything’s on hold right now, waiting on something (decisions, funding, repairs, inspections), before things can move forward.

As part of my whole mood, I frogged everything that wasn’t done and wasn’t a gift or a sock, just to give myself a sense of having done something without waiting for someone or something else before I could go forward. Once things were frogged, I pulled out new yarn and started this:
